This is a little story of my life and how I became involved in Homeopathy.

  • How did I discover Homeopathy.

I am a dressage trainer and instructor and in February 2000 unfortunately I fell off my horse and broke my back. I was in hospital for sometime. But the very good news is that I am now full recovered. But when I came out of hospital I had a horse I could not ride so I decided to put her in foal.

I sent her off to stud and the vet gave 5 mares at the stud a prostaglandin injection to bring them in to season BUT he used the same needle on the 5 mares. The first mare was fine the second had a large lump on its neck and so did the other 3 horses mine included. I was warned by the owner of the stud that my horse was not to well, but when I went to collect her there was not a sole about and my horse was swollen from tip to toe, literally. As soon as we got home I called the vet who informed me that the injection she had to give my mare may well loose the foal, but I had no choice she would have died. We got her round the corner but the vet could not get rid of the lump on her neck which was so large it made it impossible for the horse to move it’s head and would rupture the membranes if she put her head down. After 12 weeks of being stabled and trying magnetic therapy and everything under the sun, the vet felt it was time to make a decision as this was no quality of life for a horse, amazingly though she was still in foal.

By this time I had started teaching Dressage again to a few clients, I happened to be late on this specific day because the vet had held me up looking yet again at my horse. I explained and apologized for my late arrival, and the lady I was about to teach said “Oh you should go and see my Mum she does Homeopathy she’ll tell you what to give her”. Yeah, Yeah I thought, but after the lesson off I went to see her Mum I thought anything is worth a try.

She asked me a few questions and decided Ledum might be appropriate for puncture wounds. I gaily gave her one or two a day I can’t remember, but any way nothing happened. I went back the following week and she asked how was my horse? no different I said. Ok she said try this and she gave me a bottle of Silcia. I gave her one every time I passed her stable door with absolutely no idea really how many to give the bottle said give 2 every hour.

Well guess what happened next?

In 24 hours the lump had halved in 36 hours it was just there to see, in 48 hours she was in the field and you would have had a job to know there had been anything wrong.
I thought WOW!!! What is this stuff. The vet came and thought I had had her put down as she was not in the stable so I took him down the field, he did not really want to see come to think of it, but when ever he did come onto the yard he would look over the door at her just to make sure the lump really had gone.

I then spoke to this lady every time I went to teach her daughter, we discussed this and that and she suggested I should do a six week course with her homeopath who runs them periodically.

I signed up for the next course and soon discovered that Homeopathy is not just for physical problems it was also for mental and emotional problems as well.

After falling off and breaking my back I had been waking up every morning with the film running in my head of me breaking my back. This was getting very wearing and I used to switch it off in my head and think for goodness sake play another record.

After the evening session with the homeopath I asked her if it would be possible to help me with this problem. She felt there would be no reason not to.

So off I went a few weeks later to see her. I have to say I was a little nervous and a little, actually quite a lot excited.

She asked me so many questions I felt it was nice to tell someone who wanted to hear, and not just say never mind you’ll get over it.

She gave me one remedy and the next day I just felt completely different I felt like I was 17 again, my energy was back, no film paying in my head, I felt positive and alive again. I just had to phone her, and I left e message saying thank you.

That was it really I was hooked.

I then asked how does one become a homeopath, I then felt I should give it some time to make sure this was not just a 6 month wonder, it was’ent. I acquired the Murphy’s repertory and remedy guide, and began to use remedies on my horses with the help of the McLeod book for horses.

In the following spring- summer I went to have a look at all the colleges that would be near enough for me to travel to once a month and that I felt fitted in with the way I felt about homeopathy. I settled on the North West College of Homeopathy I felt they were down to earth and looked at Homeopathy in a practical and scientific light with an accredited course.

I began my 4 year course I felt I would take one year at a time, as life has a nasty way of catching you out.

Through this 4 years I have to say it was often a struggle. The course was demanding and in order to be able to fit in all the hours required, financial input was often lacking, and unfortunately my Father became ill and I had to spend 3 days a week down in Hertfordshire to take my share of the care for him, but we all muddled through and he moved on to a better place where he can be young again I feel sure. He did not enjoy the restriction of a body that was old.

For me being at college was like going to a sweet shop, lots of different  sweets, different tastes, different smells. People are so interesting with different ideas, different interests, I learnt so much just from lunch times, about crystals and, kinesiology and gem stones, and yoga and meditation, I could go on for ages. This is what college is all about. But I have to say I was also delighted when I had done all my work and I could begin to relax, recouping my energy for the next adventure. Starting my business as a Homeopath.....
